Privacy Policy
Short version: Charted is a single-developer iOS app. Your places, photos, notes, and visit history live on your device and (if you choose) in your private iCloud account. We do not collect, sell, or share your data with anyone. There are no third-party analytics, no tracking pixels, and no advertisements.
I. What we store
Everything you create inside Charted — charts, places, dates, notes, and any photos you attach — is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard SwiftData framework.
If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, the same data syncs through your private iCloud container so it can appear on your other Apple devices. This container is owned by you. We have no ability to read its contents.
Photo attachments
If you attach a photo to a place, Charted requests permission to access your photo library. We only read the image you select; the photo is stored locally inside your Charted database (and synced through your iCloud container as above). We do not upload photos to any server we operate.
II. What we do not collect
- We do not run any analytics or telemetry — first or third party.
- We do not track your location in the background.
- We do not collect crash logs unless you have explicitly opted in to share diagnostics with Apple, in which case Apple anonymises them before we ever see them.
- We do not have advertising or marketing pixels of any kind.
- We have no user accounts, sign-up flow, or email list.
III. Purchases
Charted Plus is sold as a one-time purchase. There are no subscriptions, no recurring charges, and no auto-renewals. The transaction is processed by Apple through StoreKit. We do not see your payment information — only an anonymous indication from Apple that an active entitlement exists on your device. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.
IV. Map data
Charted renders maps using Apple's MapKit. Map-tile requests and search queries you type into the in-app search field are handled by Apple under their own privacy policy. We do not relay or store those queries ourselves.
V. Children
Charted is suitable for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13, because we do not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
VI. Changes
If we ever change this policy in a material way — for instance, if we add a feature that talks to a server we operate — we will update this page and the effective date at the top, and we will surface the change in the app before the new behaviour is enabled.
